"We believe every child should have a savings account and an opportunity to afford college. No matter where they live."
-Brian Dorcy
Board Chair, Director
Our Purpose
We exist to enhance the lives of people living in the communities served by Excite Credit Union. We will do this by primarily focusing on Children’s Savings programs and standing ready to support disaster relief when needed.
Excite Credit Union has already established leadership in Children’s Savings, with over 1,000 Step Up and Youth Savings accounts opened in the past two years. Excite Foundation will work with other community partners to scale this impact throughout East San Jose. This will be the primary focus of the Foundation in 2024.
We are also acutely aware that our communities have been susceptible to natural disasters, including fires, earthquakes, hurricanes and floods. The Foundation will be poised to respond quickly when these hit, by raising tax-deductible donations from Excite CU members and the general public that can be quickly deployed directly to victims or via proven partners.
Support.
Our Story
The Excite Foundation is an extension of the vision of the original founders of Excite Credit Union. Dating back to 1952, Excite CU was formed to support the employees and communities of the General Electric Nuclear Division. Now $700 million in assets strong and operating in Silicon Valley, CA and Wilmington, NC, Excite Credit Union is an established leader in local philanthropy while serving 46,000 members.
Excite Foundation was established in 2020 to extend the impact that the Credit Union and our Members can have on amplifying the key cooperative principles common to all credit unions: Financial Education and Inclusion and Concern for Community.
The Foundation operates independently of the Credit Union, while enjoying the pro-bono support and expertise of the Excite staff. As is evident from our focus areas, we expect that we can increase the impact by allowing Excite CU members, the general public and other foundations to join us as we work to lead our communities in supporting Children’s Savings Accounts and local response to natural disasters.
